Elsevier's Dictionary of Physical Planning Review
Elsevier's Dictionary of Physical Planning Feature
The compilation of this dictionary was suggested on the completion of the five-volume International Planning Glossaries. Although the publication of the fifth volume on Planning and Development completed the original programme, it was found that a very substantial number of items of interest to planners fell outside the main classification of subjects embodied in the five volumes. This strongly suggested the publication of a comprehensive dictionary which would concentrate all the essential items in one convenient volume.
This dictionary provides a complete selection of terms in use in the many inter-related fields covered by town and country planning. Definitions are included wherever this is necessary to give precision. Cross references are also given for a large number of terms to related terms with which comparison can be usefully made.
Although this volume is designed to be used independently it may also be found invaluable for use in connection with the five volumes of the International Planning Glossaries to which cross-references are provided and where can be found a fuller discussion of the subject matter. About 2/3 of the terms have been selected from the five volumes. For members of the many professions concerned with some aspect of physical planning this is an invaluable reference to the ideas of their colleagues in related professions.
